Adding SLP parameters to the DHCP configuration

NOTE: Do not enter these SLP parameter until the DA is setup and functional
or else the
Workstations will waste
time to try to find the DA, give up and then try to find a way to login
as usual. (i.e. Don’t advertise services that
are not setup yet)
SLP
Directory Agent
Go to the Subnet object (called something like
10.10.100.0
(MY_SUBNET))
Click on the Other
DHCP Options tab
Click Modify
on the left, in Available
DHCP Options and select
Directory Agent Code 78
This is used for the SLP
Directory Agent.
Click on Add
>>
On the right, in the Selected
DHCP Options list, select Directory
Agent Code 78
Click on Add
Enter the IP address of the DA
Click on Multicast
box (prevents clients from using
multicast to find DA(see TID 2948026)
Enter the scope that this DA
will service Ok.
SLP Scope
Click on the
Other DHCP Options tab
and click Modify
on the left, in the Available
DHCP Options list, select Service
Scope Code 79
This is used for the name
of the SLP Scope.
Click on Add
>>
On the right, in the Selected
DHCP Options list, select Service
Scope Code 79
Click on Add
Enter the SLP Scope and click Ok.
Click on the Save Icon
CMD Network number
If implementing Compatibility Mode add the following too.
Go to the Subnet object (called something like
10.10.100.0
(MY_SUBNET))
Click on the Other DHCP Options tab
and click Modify on
the left, in the Available DHCP Options list,
select IPX Network number Code 63-12
This is used for the CMD Network number.
Click on Add >>
On the right, in Selected DHCP
Options, select IPX
Network number Code 63-12
Enter the <IPX Network number> and click Ok.
Migration agents
click Modify
on the left, in the Available DHCP
Options list, select Migration
Agents Code 63-14
This is used for the IP addresses of Migration agents.
Click on
Add >>
On the right, in the Selected DHCP
Options list, select Migration
Agents Code 63-14
Click Add and
Enter the IP address of the Migration Agent
Click Ok.
Click
Ok.
(NOTE: The
IPX Stale time is
big time optional. Defaults are usually fine unless your networkchanges frequently and fast.)
click
Modify
on the left, in the Available DHCP
Options list, select IPX
Stale time Code 63-13
This is used for the CMD server resolution stale time. A.k.a. Time between
SLP refreshes.
Default is 10800 seconds (3 hours) range is 60 to 60000 seconds (Novell

Add >>
On the right, in the Selected DHCP
Options list, select IPX
Stale time Code 63-13
Enter 10800 and click Ok.
Click on the Save Icon
(Note: The workstations will only get the new SLP info the next time they
renew their IP address or on reboot)
