How to setup the DNS server component

(Note: For DDNS to work properly you must add IN-ADDR.ARPA zones. Click on the DNS Services Tab.)

Click Create (little yellow box) and create a DNS Server Object.
You will be asked to select the server object that you will be loading DNS on.
Name server Host Name is <the name of the NetWare server>
   
(Note: Do not select a domain at this time)
Click
Create
(Note: to create this object you need rights to the DNS-DHCP Locator object)

Click Create (little yellow box) and create a Zone Object.
Enter the NDS context where the new Zone objects will be created in
(usually the same as the server)
Enter a Zone Domain Name:
novell.com
Zone Type is:
Primary
Assign Authoritative DNS server: select the DNS server you just created
Click
Create
Read and Click Ok
Select the Zone you just created
Create an A record for the Name server.

Click Create (little yellow box) and create a
Zone Object.
Select
Create IN-ADDR.ARPA
Enter the NDS context where the new Zone objects will be created in
(usually the same as the server’s)
Zone Domain Name is:
10.10.100.0
Assign Authoritative DNS server: select the DNS server you just created
Click
Create
Load NAMED.NLM on the server console

What should you see?
On the console you should get another screen (NAMED)
On the DNS/DHCP console, the red X across the server should be gone after about one minute of
uptime. If not, click on the refresh button. If that doesn’t work still, exit the DNS/DHCP console and get back in.

How to Enable Dynamic DNS
Dynamic DNS (DDNS) provides automatic updating of DNS with Address and Pointer records for
addresses and hostnames assigned using the DDNS feature. To use DDNS, the following configuration must already exist:

-The DNS Zone object to receive DHCP updates must already be created.
-Subnet Address Range objects that will use DDNS must be set to range type
Dynamic

BOOTP and DHCP or Dynamic DHCP.

-Click on the DHCP Services Tab.
-Select the Subnet object ( 10.10.100.0(MY_SUBNET)) of the Subnet Address Range on which
you want to activate DDNS for the DNS Zone for Dynamic Update select novell.com
-Click on the Save Icon
-Select the desired Subnet Address Range ( 10.10.100.10 - 10.10.100.150) and ensure that the
range type is set to Dynamic BOOTP and DHCP or Dynamic DHCP.
-Set the
DNS update option to Always Update.
-Click on the Save Icon
