Delivering SLP Information via W2K DHCP Server

By default Win2K DHCP does not know how to deliver Service Location Profile (SLP) information.  Configuring a Win2K DHCP server to distribute this information, however, is not difficult.  Simply follow the step-by-step procedures below.

(Netscape Users: The Images  in the Links below can be dragged around for easy viewing by clicking on any portion of the image.  Opening another image will close the previous image.)

  1. Start the DHCP Management Console
  2. Right-Click on the DHCP Server and select "Set Predefined Options" ( Figure - 1 )
  3. Select the "Add" button to insert Option 78 ( SLP Directory Agent Server )
  4. Set "Name" to "SLP DA Server". ( Figure - 2 )

Misc Questions

  1. Can NT4 DHCP be configured to deliver SLP Information?  No.  NT4 does not support DHCPINFORM Requests, which are required to deliver SLP information.
